International Conference on Yolanda Reconstruction:
"Bayanihan/Sogo-Fujo Without Borders"
On March 8th 2014, AMDA and Philippine Rural Reconstruction Movement (PRRM) co-organized an international conference on Yolanda/Haiyan reconstruction in Metro Manila, Philippines.
In total, 110 people participated in this conference, and 12 governmental and non-governmental organizations presented about their experiences, activities and plans on Post-Yolanda Reconstruction.
In the afternoon, they participated in a group discussion on the ongoing Yolanda reconstruction activities as well as exchanging opinion on how to prepare for any future disasters. At the end, each group shared their opinions with the other groups.
As the final event of the conference, "Manila Declaration on Post-Yolanda Reconstruction" was adopted by all the participants. From this conference, we were able to achieve the common goal of:
(1) working effectively towards the better future for the disaster-affected people
(2) preparing ourselves for the future disasters
(3) commitment to build a better world for all to share
under "Bayanihan/Sogo-Fujo" spirit, which means the reciprocal assistance based on mutual respect and trust.
