Emergency Response to the earthquake in Sichuan, Part 2
A coordinator, who left for Sichuan, China, on April 23rd to respond to the earthquake that hit the area last month, came back to Japan on April 30th after completing all missions.
During the assessments, the coordinator observed the class of junior high school students who lost their school building from the earthquake. They were receiving education at their temporary classroom at Southwestern University of Finance and Economics.
On April 25th, AMDA donated relief-fund to Sichuan Provincial Peoples Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries. Later, relief supplies were purchased and prepared for distribution with the help of local volunteers before handing them over to a local NGO in Sichuan.
The coordinator witnessed that the psychological counselors trained by AMDA during the 2008 Sichuan Earthquake played a remarkable role. AMDA realized that strengthening human resource development would bring a good outcome for the future medical relief activities for the victims.
