AMDA Completes Third Cataract Project in Trincomalee, Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka is one of the developing nations that has a large number of senior citizens with cataracts and most of them live in the rural areas.
Following AMDA's two main motto of "Local Initiative" and "Sogo Fujo" spirit, AMDA completed two similar Cataract operation mission in the North and East of Sri Lanka last year.
The third mission was held in the eastern region of Sri Lanka, Trincomale from 27-29th of Feb. 2012. The mission once again was held by AMDA HQs and AMDA Taiwan who brought three surgeons from Taiwan. The team worked with the local doctors at Government base hospital in Trincomalee. AMDA Taiwan also donated various medicines and materials for the operations. In total about 24 people benefited from this mission in such a short time and limited budget. All cases had severe and very matured cataracts that made the operation a lengthy process for the doctors. There were about 20 medical staff including the doctors worked hard to complete the task.
Upon the completion of the AMDA's medical mission, a letter of appreciation was handed over from the Trincomale General Hospital to AMDA.
