AMDA Emergency Bulletin: Earthquake in Turkey
A 7.2-magnitude earthquake hit southeast part of Turkey on Sunday Oct. 23. The death toll has exceeded 200 and it is expected to rise. There are still people trapped in the collapsed buildings and hundreds of people are in need of medical treatment.
AMDA's emergency relief team has left Okayama, Japan, yesterday and will arrive Van at 9:15 am today, local time. The team consists of a surgeon, an internist and a coordinator. The coordinator, a member of Turkey Japan Cultural Dialog Society, is a Turkish national residing in Japan.
AMDA has worked in collaboration with Turkey Japan Cultural Dialog Society on several occasions in the past. It has been quite active in helping the victims of East Japan Earthquake.
AMDA's team is expected to support the medical relief activities in the devastated area.
