Emergency Relief for Earthquake in Yunnan Province 2
In response to the magnitude 6.5 earthquake which hit Yunnan province, China on August 3rd, AMDA dispatched another nurse from Kuala Lumpur to Chengdu on August 6th. AMDA nurse from Kuala Lumpur arrived at Chengdu in the evening on August 6th and joined AMDA team which started working there with a local partner on the previous day.
With the support from Sichuan Provincial People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (PAFFC of Sichuan), AMDA team flew to Kunming Changshui International Airport on August 7th and had a meeting with PAFFC of Yunnan. According to them, most of affected people are staying in temporary shelters provided by the government. The transportation and communication were restored in some places.
As of August 6th, Yunnan provincial government announced 589 people were killed, 2,401 people were injured and approximately 1.1 million people were affected by the disaster.
