Emergency Relief Mission for Flood in Pakistan and North India

In early September, the Kashimir region (which consists of Azad Kashimir and Gilgit-Baltisan in Pakistan, and Jammu and Kashimir in India) was hit by heavy flood caused by heavy monsoon rains. River banks and dams were destroyed and the roads and buildings have been submerged.

The damage is still growing and spreading area due to the continuous rains which are expected to last until middle of September. 312 people were dead, 540 people were injured, and at least 2 million people were affected in Pakistan (Reported by Government of Pakistan, Climate Change Division, National Disaster Management Authority on September 15th, 2014), and 295 people were dead, and more than 2.4 million people were affected in India. (Reported by Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs, Disaster Management Division on September 15th, 2014)

In response to the situation, AMDA decided to conduct emergency relief mission in cooperation with National Rural Support Programme (NRSP)* in Pakistan and dispatched AMDA's nurse from Japan on September 17th. The AMDA's nurse will start emergency relief activity with NRSP based on the local needs.

*National Rural Support Programme (NRSP) is a partner organization of AMDA and operated joint emergency relief mission in Pakistan for flood and earthquake in 2010 and 2013 respectively.
